Odisha Steps Up Coastal Security With New Infrastructure, Patrol Measures

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has strengthened its coastal security network with a series of new measures, including the establishment of 18 coastal police stations and the deployment of specialised personnel to curb infiltration and smuggling along the state’s maritime border.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly about the initiatives while responding to a question raised by MLA Tusharkanti Behera. He said operations such as ‘Operation Sajag’ and ‘Sagar Kavach’ are being actively implemented to reinforce vigilance across coastal districts.
According to the CM, 18 coastal police stations have already been set up to enhance surveillance and ensure quicker response along the coastline. The government has also deployed Special Police Officers (SPOs) on fishing boats to strengthen on-water monitoring.
In a significant boost to maritime capabilities, Odisha has approved the induction of five hovercrafts for coastal patrolling and 15 Fast Interceptor Boats (FIBs) for rapid response and interception. Additionally, four All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) have been provided for shoreline patrolling, along with 10 high-speed boats dedicated to rescue operations.
To support these initiatives, the government has allocated ₹26.194 crore for the coastal security plan for the year 2025–26, ensuring continued investment in safeguarding the state’s maritime boundaries.
