Odisha Showcases Vision for Sustainable Urban Growth at Urban Policy Dialogues 2025

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has presented its long-term vision for resilient and sustainable urban development at the Urban Policy Dialogues 2025, organised in Bengaluru by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements. The national event brought together policymakers, urban planners and experts to deliberate on emerging challenges and new opportunities shaping India’s urban landscape.
Speaking during a session on India’s growing stranded asset concerns, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Usha Padhee emphasised the importance of adopting flexible, climate-resilient and inclusive planning models. She said that cities must be prepared to manage rapid demographic shifts and escalating environmental pressures. Padhee noted that urban centres should be viewed as evolving ecosystems driven by people and their aspirations, with planning focused on ensuring dignity, improving quality of life and meeting the needs of future generations.
During her visit, Padhee also held discussions with the Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority on governance reforms and institutional strengthening for expanding metropolitan regions. The talks centred on enhancing cities as engines of economic growth and innovation while ensuring equitable development.
Padhee reiterated that Odisha is committed to technology-driven, reform-oriented urban development with a strong focus on community participation and improved liveability. According to the state’s vision, the future of urban Odisha lies in cities that offer dignity, opportunity and a sustainable environment for all.
