Odisha Seeks Hike in Rice Procurement Target for Kharif Season 2024–25

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Monday met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi, urging an increase in the state’s Custom Milled Rice (CMR) procurement target for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024–25.

During the meeting, Singh Deo submitted a letter from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, requesting the Centre to raise the approved procurement target from 50 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) to match the state’s actual yield of 62.54 LMT.

He stressed that the enhanced target is essential to support Odisha’s farmers and ensure effective management of the state’s food security system. The Deputy CM also sought an extension of the CMR delivery deadline from October 31, 2025, to December 31, 2025, and urged the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to expedite the lifting process to clear the remaining stock within the extended period.

Principal Secretary of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department Sanjay Kumar Singh and Principal Secretary of Energy Department Vishal Kumar Dev accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister during the meeting.
