Odisha Records First Omicron Death

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): A woman from Balangir district of Odisha has died after being infected by Omicron variant of COVID-19. According to sources, the 45-year-old woman from Agalpur of the district had tested positive for COVID and was admitted in the VIMSAR, Burla, in Sambalpur on December 23 last year.

The patient’s sample had been sent for genome sequencing. But she succumbed on December 27 before the test report could come in. Balangir CDMO Dr Snehalata Sahoo said the genome sequencing report that came on Wednesday confirmed that the patient carried Omicron variant.

The CDMO said the exact cause of the woman’s death is being ascertained. After contact tracing, the persons who had come in contact with the patient have undergone RT-PCR test, she added.
