Odisha Police Launches Statewide Crackdown on Illegal Firecracker Trade under ‘Operation AGNI’

Bhubaneswar: Acting on the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, a statewide special drive titled “AGNI” was carried out between September 14 and 27, 2025, to curb the illegal storage, transportation, and sale of explosives and firecrackers ahead of the festive season.

According to an official press note issued by the Odisha Police, the drive led to massive seizures and multiple arrests across several districts, significantly disrupting networks involved in the unsafe and unlawful trade of firecrackers and explosives.

The operation resulted in the registration of 55 cases, 33 arrests, and 18 notices served, with a total seizure value of ₹54.51 lakh across districts under the Central Range. Authorities also reported four absconding accused who are being traced.

District-wise, Jagatsinghpur recorded the highest seizure worth ₹20.30 lakh, followed by Kendrapara (₹17.53 lakh), Jajpur (₹5.27 lakh), and Cuttack (₹4.39 lakh). Other districts, including Puri, Nayagarh, and Khordha, also reported notable recoveries.

Police said the operation has not only removed large quantities of hazardous materials from circulation but has also acted as a strong deterrent against future violations. The Odisha Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and peaceful celebrations during the upcoming festive period.
