Odisha Police Conduct Massive Raids on Cattle Smuggling Network Across Three Districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Tuesday launched a large-scale crackdown on organised cattle smuggling operations across the Eastern Range, carrying out coordinated raids in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts.

The multi-district operation led to the seizure of cash worth Rs 50 lakh, along with a substantial quantity of gold and silver, and several vehicles allegedly used for illegal cattle transportation.

Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra said the raids commenced early in the morning and were conducted simultaneously at 32 identified locations.

“A total of 18 platoons were deployed for the operation, including 8 Additional SPs, 17 DSP-rank officers, 25 Inspectors, and 67 SI and ASI officers. The scale of deployment reflects the organised nature of the cattle smuggling network,” he stated.

According to the DIG, firearms and other weapons were also recovered from certain locations, indicating that the illegal activities were part of a well-structured and potentially dangerous network.

So far, around 12 individuals have been detained in connection with the case. Officials said the counting and assessment of seized valuables are still underway, and the final valuation will be announced once the process is completed.

Reiterating the department’s stance, DIG Mishra said strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved, emphasizing the police’s commitment to dismantling organised cattle smuggling operations in the region.
