Odisha Outsourcing Staff Threaten Stir Over CM’s Data Breach Remark

Bhubaneswar: Outsourcing employees across Odisha have expressed strong resentment over Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s recent remarks hinting at a possible breach of data confidentiality by contractual staff. The statement has triggered widespread anger among outsourced workers, who now threaten to launch an agitation.

Addressing an event in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister criticized the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government for heavily depending on outsourcing and contractual employees to run the administration. “Outsourcing or contractual employees cannot take decisions regarding utilization of budgetary allocations. Besides, there are also chances of breach of data confidentiality by outsourcing staff,” he stated.

Reacting sharply, the Odisha Government Outsourcing Employees Association urged the Chief Minister to clarify his comments. They said they have been serving various government departments with “sincerity and honesty” for the past 15–20 years despite lack of job regularization.

“We have been serving the government despite no regularization of jobs. We urge the Chief Minister to clear the air on his statement regarding confidentiality of government data. Otherwise, we will be forced to launch an agitation,” the association warned.

The association further recalled that Majhi, during his tenure as an Opposition MLA, had supported their demands. “But after becoming the Chief Minister, he has not fulfilled his promises. Now, his remarks on data confidentiality have deeply hurt us,” they added.

Further developments are awaited as employees prepare for possible statewide protests.
