Odisha Minister warns govt officials of strict action over poor quality work, delayed bill payments

Sambalpur: Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Wednesday issued a stern warning to officials against poor quality execution of government works. He said that strict action would be taken against the offiicials if irregularities are found.

During a review meeting held at the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation office, the minister expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of officials. He stressed that no compromise would be tolerated in the quality and quantity of developmental works.

Minister Warns Of Strict Action

Mahapatra said officers would face stricter punishment than contractors if lapses are detected in execution of projects.

“Compromise in quality and quantity of work will not be tolerated and the officers concerned will be held responsible for it. Apart from contractors, officials responsible will also face action. The government is providing funds, so officials must monitor the work being carried out by contractors, verify the quality and, if found satisfactory, bills should be issued and payments made immediately,” the minister said.

Dissatisfaction Over Pending Bills

The minister questioned why bill payments were being delayed despite completion of works and expressed displeasure over non-payment of bills related to 31 works since March this year.

He warned that stringent action would be initiated if payments were found to be withheld due to percentage commission dealings.

Expressing further dissatisfaction, the minister reportedly criticised officials for not utilising funds despite advance allocations. He also expressed concern over the delay in payments and directed officials to ensure immediate clearance of pending bills.

Officials Asked To Ensure Transparency

Mahapatra directed officials to remain cautious so that no public complaints arise regarding projects and monthly bill submissions. He also stressed the need for transparency and accountability in implementation of developmental works.

The review meeting was attended by MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, former MLA Nauri Nayak, the District Collector, the Municipal Commissioner and officials from various departments.
