Odisha Home Guard Recruitment Drive Turns Tragic, Aspirant Dies During Test

Chhatrapur (Ganjam): A Home Guard recruitment drive in Odisha ended in tragedy on Sunday after a candidate collapsed during the physical endurance test in Chhatrapur, Ganjam district.

The deceased has been identified as Shibram Pradhan of Tulasipalli under Tarasingh police limits. He reportedly fell ill while participating in a sprint. Pradhan was initially rushed to the Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed during treatment.

Following the incident, authorities suspended the ongoing recruitment test. Police said a fresh date for the examination will be announced later.

This is the third such incident in recent months. On May 21, two aspirants — Deepak from Narayanpur in Rayagada district and Sulanta Misal from Gajapati — died during similar endurance tests in Betaguda and Paralakhemundi, respectively.
