Odisha Govt to tighten pollution certificate norms from today

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is set to enforce stricter pollution certificate (PUCC) norms from today, targeting vehicles without valid certificates.
Vehicles without PUCC will be caught by e-detection systems at toll gates and fined.
This move aims to curb pollution, which is worsening the state’s air quality. The air quality in the state is getting worse day by day. With the aim of protecting the environment from transport related pollutions, a strict approach has been taken for pollution inspection.
Currently, only 21% of vehicles in Odisha have pollution certificates, with many violating norms.
The Commerce and Transport Department had earlier tightened PUCC inspection but relaxed it till April 1 for public awareness. With the relaxation period ending, enforcement will resume, and violators will face fines.
