Odisha Govt Releases ₹5,000 Crore Under Subhadra Yojana on Rakhi Purnima

Jeypore: On the auspicious occasion of Rakhi Purnima, the Odisha Government on Saturday released the third installment of funds under the Subhadra Yojana, disbursing ₹5,000 crore among over one crore women beneficiaries across the state. Each eligible woman received ₹5,000 directly in her bank account.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi handed over the assistance at a special programme held in Jeypore town, Koraput district, also extending the benefit to women from border dispute areas in Kotia Gram Panchayat under Pottangi block.
Before the formal disbursement, women beneficiaries tied rakhis on the wrists of CM Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singhdeo and Pravati Parida, Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, and other dignitaries present on stage.
Following the release, the Subhadra Yojana portal was reopened for fresh applications. Women turning 21 will now be eligible to apply, while those above 60 years of age as of March 30, 2025, will no longer qualify.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, shortly after the BJP formed government in Odisha, the Subhadra Yojana has become one of the state’s largest direct benefit transfer initiatives for women’s financial empowerment.
Previous Phases:
- 1st Phase: ₹5,000 each to 25 lakh women (Sept 2024)
- 2nd Phase: ₹5,000 each to 39 lakh women (Oct 9, 2024)
- 3rd Phase: ₹5,000 each to 20 lakh women (Nov 24, 2024)
- 4th Phase: ₹5,000 each to 18 lakh women (Feb 8, 2025)
- 5th Phase: ₹5,000 each to 2.3 lakh women (Mar 6, 2025), achieving 1 crore total beneficiaries
- 2nd Installment: Released on March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day
The August 9 release marks the third installment, continuing the government’s mission to strengthen women’s financial independence through direct cash transfers.
