Odisha Govt Forms High-Level Committee to Probe SCB Medical College Fire

Bhubaneswar: Following the tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack that reportedly resulted in the deaths of patients, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered the formation of a high-level fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

According to an official statement, the committee will examine the cause of the fire and submit its findings to the state government.

Development Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. Other members include IG of Fire Services Dr. Umashankar Dash, Chief Electrical Inspector and EIC Barada Prasanna Dash, Engineer-in-Chief of the Urban Public Health Department Biranchi Narayan Pradhan, Chief Engineer (Buildings) Priyabrat Samantaray, and Director of Medical Education and Training Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Kumar Mishra.

The team has been directed to visit the hospital and conduct an on-site inspection to gather details about the incident. Officials said the committee will assess the affected areas, review existing fire safety arrangements, and examine the sequence of events that led to the fire.

The committee has been asked to submit its report to the Chief Secretary by this evening. Further action will be taken by the state government based on the findings of the report.
