Odisha Govt Declares Holiday on August 29 for Nuakhai Festival

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has declared August 29 (Friday) as a holiday for all higher education institutions and schools across the state on the occasion of the Nuakhai festival.
Official letters were issued on Tuesday to universities, colleges, and district education officers informing them of the decision.
The Higher Education Department has notified that all universities and colleges under its purview will remain closed on August 29. It has also revised the academic calendar, reducing the provision of local holidays from two to one for the 2025 academic session.
Similarly, the School and Mass Education Department announced a holiday on August 29 for all government and government-aided schools, replacing an earlier scheduled local holiday.
Although Nuakhai is traditionally observed on August 28, the state government has designated August 29 as the official holiday for academic institutions.
