Odisha Government to Launch Digital Health Cards for Hostel Students

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance healthcare for schoolchildren, the Odisha government will soon introduce Digital Health Cards for students residing in hostels, announced School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Monday.

The initiative aims to ensure regular health monitoring, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment for hostel-based students across the state.

“Each student living in a hostel will be issued a Digital Health Card containing a detailed medical history. This will help identify health issues early and enable prompt intervention,” said Minister Gond while addressing the media.

Developed by the School and Mass Education Department, the system is designed to streamline healthcare services for students, especially those from remote and underprivileged backgrounds. The digital records will enable health professionals and administrators to track students’ health conditions more efficiently.

The rollout will begin in a phased manner, initially covering government-run hostels, before expanding to all residential schools in the state.

This initiative is part of the state government’s broader commitment to improving student welfare and well-being, particularly in tribal and rural regions where access to consistent medical care is often limited.

Officials believe the program will play a crucial role in strengthening the health infrastructure for schoolchildren and reducing long-term health risks through early detection and care.
