Odisha Government to Crack Down on Inefficient Officials, Forced Retirement on the Cards

Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to enhance administrative efficiency, the Odisha government has announced strict action against officials and employees failing to perform their duties as per established rules.

At a recent high-level secretarial meeting, it was resolved that a comprehensive review of the performance of all government officials and employees will be undertaken. Those found lacking in competence or failing to meet their responsibilities may face compulsory retirement.

The Chief Secretary’s office has directed all departments to submit detailed data on underperforming personnel by August 7. The list is expected to include names of those deemed unable to discharge their duties effectively.

This decision follows the General Administration Department’s circular issued on September 24, 2019, which empowers the state to enforce compulsory retirement for inefficient staff members.

The Chief Secretary’s office will directly oversee the implementation of this directive to ensure strict compliance across departments.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at bringing greater accountability within the bureaucracy and ensuring that only dedicated and capable personnel continue in service. The move is expected to usher in a more result-oriented governance structure across the state.
