Odisha Explores Use of Terrazyme for Eco-Friendly, Durable Roads

Bhubaneswar: In a move towards sustainable infrastructure, the Odisha government is considering the use of Terrazyme, a bio-enzymatic soil stabilizer, for building cost-effective and eco-friendly roads.
A review meeting chaired by Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday discussed the potential of the technology in road construction. Officials highlighted Terrazyme’s advantages, including lower costs, higher durability, and environmental compatibility.

Made from natural plant extracts, Terrazyme is non-toxic and biodegradable, capable of strengthening soil and improving its quality. Roads built with this technology are not only stronger and longer-lasting but also cheaper than those constructed with traditional materials like stone, gravel, cement, and asphalt. The product also reduces heat, dust pollution, and carbon emissions—making it particularly suitable for forested and biodiversity-rich regions.
Minister Harichandan directed officials of the Works Department and the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) to prepare a detailed feasibility report, with a special focus on eco-sensitive areas, and submit it for government approval.
The meeting was attended by Banapur Block Chairman Amarendra Ranasingh, OBCC Consultant Jayakrishna Das, Additional Chief Engineer Sridhar Raut, and other senior officials.
