Odisha CM Majhi Urges Citizens to Embrace ‘Vocal for Local’ on Gandhi Jayanti

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of self-reliance and supporting local products. He urged citizens to adopt the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative and support local weavers and artisans, highlighting the need to preserve the state’s rich cultural heritage.

The CM reaffirmed Odisha’s commitment to becoming a prosperous state by 2036, aligning with India’s growth trajectory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking to his X handle, Majhi wrote, “Under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, India has become the world’s fourth-largest economy and is now moving towards becoming a developed nation. During this time, our state Odisha is also committed to becoming a prosperous state by 2036. To achieve this goal, we need to be self-reliant because only then can we contribute to the country’s and our state’s development journey.”

Majhi shared that he purchased handloom fabrics from Boyanika for his family as a symbolic gesture inspired by the Swadeshi movement. He encouraged everyone to adopt the initiative and support Swadeshi products to strengthen Odisha’s economy.

In a video message, Majhi recalled Prime Minister Modi’s first Mann Ki Baat on October 3, 2014, which coincided with Vijayadashami, where Modi ji urged the nation to wear khadi. He said, “Khadi represents Swadeshi and self-reliant India. During the Covid pandemic, Modi ji effectively conveyed the importance of ‘Vocal for Local.’ The nation’s future is intertwined with khadi, Swadeshi, and self-reliant India.”

Majhi also highlighted Odisha’s cultural practices, stating, “Our Lord Shri Jagannath is the pioneer of ‘Vocal for Local’ and Swadeshi. Even today, potatoes and tomatoes are not allowed in the Sreemandir. Lord Jagannath wears only handloom clothes made by Odia people. Symbolically, I purchased handloom fabrics today, and I urge the people of Odisha and the nation to unite in promoting ‘Vocal for Local’ and Swadeshi to build a developed India.”
