Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as Low-Pressure Likely Over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around June 17-18, potentially triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha, according to the regional weather office.
Moisture-laden winds from the southeast are expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to several districts. Wind speeds may reach 40-50 km/h in some areas, raising concerns about temporary disruptions. The rainfall is forecast to continue over the next three days, with heavy showers likely in isolated pockets until June 16.

For today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for six districts likely to receive intense downpours: Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, and Nuapada.
Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, citing the risk of falling trees, waterlogging, and other weather-related hazards.
