Odisha Bans Out-of-State Commercial Vehicles Over 10 Years Old

The Odisha government just rolled out a ban on commercial vehicles from other states that are over 10 years old, hoping to enhance road safety and cut down on pollution. This initiative aims to drastically reduce pollution levels and eliminate unfit, aging transport fleets from the state’s road network.
Every Regional Transport Officer and Assistant RTO got clear instructions to enforce this policy and not let older out-of-state vehicles get new permits. On top of that, these vehicles won’t get any administrative services, like ownership transfers, address changes, or help with transport taxes.
Even though enforcement picked up steam recently, the whole thing started almost three years ago. The policy got the green light in the STA’s 301st meeting on July 19, 2023. Now that the ban is in motion, the state is doubling down on its mission to update the transport sector, making sure only safe and environmentally friendly vehicles hit the roads.
