Odias Celebrate Utkala Divas on April 1

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is celebrating the 90th Utkal Divas across the state on Wednesday. On April 1, 1936, Odisha was named as a separate state in the country of India following the protest and struggle of many great leaders.

The Odia’s celebrate this day with cultural programmes, patriotic events and other ceremonies. Utkal Divas is celebrated as a day of pride and unity for Odias. Schools, colleges and government institutions are organising special events to celebrate this day.

It is noteworthy to mention that Odisha was the first state in India to be formed on a linguistic basis.

Across the State, the 90th Utkal Divas is being marked with cultural programmes, patriotic events and official ceremonies.

On the occasion of Utkal Divas, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi extended wishes via an video message to the Odia people living in the country and abroad. He said, “On this historic day marking the formation of the Separate Odisha state, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all Odia brothers and sisters residing in the country and abroad. As the first state formed on the basis of language, Odisha created its distinct identity on the world stage. On this occasion, I pay my deep respects to those great sons of the soil whose sacrifices and foresight made a separate Odisha possible.”

HE also added that “Our government remains forever committed to safeguarding Odia identity and culture. We continue to work tirelessly to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of every Odia. Our sole aim is to build Odisha into the foremost state of the nation. On this sacred day today, let us all come together and take a firm pledge to build a ‘Prosperous Odisha’.”

“Bande Utkala Janani. I wish everyone a happy Utkal Divas through my sand art and seek blessings from Lord Jagannath for the progress of our state,” said eminent sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik.
