Sambalpur: The Nabanna or the first harvest of the season was offered to Maa Samaleswari of Sambalpur today amid drumbeats and conchs.
The Bhog from the houses of three priests was prepared for Maa. The Puja preparations begun thereafter and then Nabanna was offered to Maa. The Bhog consisted of the season’s first harvested paddy, milk, pitha (pie), Sarusaga.
The Nabanna was offered in the scheduled time after the rituals. Then the temple doors were opened for the public darshan. The western Odisha is filled with joy and the festive fervour is in full swing.
Pitha (pie) preparations are done in every house to celebrate the day. People staying in other places return to their homes and get soaked in the festivities as they unite with their near and dear ones.
After the offerings to the presiding deity, family members relish on the Nabanna. This also strengthens the family bonding and also passes on the traditions and culture to our future generation. On Nuakhai Bhetghat the families immerse in deep joy and fun to celebrate the festival.
The significance of this day is more than just offerings. On this day, the farmers worship the agrarian fields, the potters worship their wheel.
