Nitin Nabin Takes Charge as BJP National President, Becomes Youngest Party Chief

Delhi: Nitin Nabin on Tuesday assumed charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the party’s organisational event, Sangathan Parv, held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. With this, the 45-year-old leader has become the youngest to hold the party’s top organisational post.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his appointment. The event was attended by outgoing BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and BJP’s Sangathan Parv National Returning Officer K. Laxman, among others.

During the programme, K. Laxman formally announced Nitin Nabin as the new BJP National President and handed over the election certificate. Several senior party leaders, including Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, national office bearers, state unit presidents, and members of the party’s national executive committee, were present on the occasion.

The BJP had on Monday declared Nabin as the sole candidate for the post of National President after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded without any other contenders, paving the way for his unopposed election as the party’s 12th national chief.

Nabin, who was appointed National Working President on December 14 last year, received overwhelming support from the party’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and outgoing president J.P. Nadda. Earlier on Monday, senior BJP leaders, Chief Ministers, and representatives from several states submitted support papers in his favour, indicating strong organisational consensus.

As the sole nominee, Nabin was formally elected by the BJP’s electoral college comprising members of the party’s national council and state councils. As per party rules, a candidate for the post must be proposed by at least 20 electoral college members from a state and must have a minimum of 15 years of party membership.

Nabin’s elevation is being seen as a strategic move by the BJP to bring in youthful leadership while ensuring continuity in the party’s organisational structure.
