Nitin Gadkari to Attend 84th Indian Roads Congress in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit Odisha to attend the 84th Annual Session of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC), which will take place from November 7 to 10, 2025, at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
Confirming the development on Thursday, Odisha Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said this will be the sixth time that Odisha is hosting the prestigious IRC session. The four-day event is expected to draw participation from over 4,000 highway engineers and road professionals from across India and abroad.

During the session, various firms and organizations will make technical presentations showcasing innovative construction methods, modern technologies, and case studies that address complex engineering challenges. The event will also feature interactive discussions among delegates from both the private and government sectors, promoting collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
The Indian Roads Congress serves as a premier national platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and expertise related to road construction, maintenance, and transport infrastructure. The conference will focus on advancements in technology, equipment, planning, finance, taxation, research, and policy matters that influence the country’s road development.
Established in December 1934, the Indian Roads Congress is the apex professional body of highway engineers in India. It originated from the recommendations of the M.R. Jayakar Committee on Road Development (1927), which advocated regular national road conferences to address challenges in road construction and maintenance.
The IRC’s primary objectives are to provide a national forum for pooling professional experience and ideas on highways and road transport, to recommend standard specifications for road and bridge construction, and to offer expert opinions on road development, administration, and policy.
In addition to organizing conferences, the IRC publishes journals, monthly magazines, and research bulletins to spread technical knowledge and innovations. It functions as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act and is financed by contributions from the Central and State Governments, its members, and through the sale of its publications.
