Neeraj Chopra Wins Javelin Gold at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 Meet

Ostrava (Czech Republic): India’s star javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal at the prestigious Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 meet on Tuesday with a best throw of 85.29 metres.

Competing in the one-day athletics meet, Chopra sealed the top podium finish with one throw remaining, as none of his competitors could surpass his third-attempt effort of 85.29m. The 27-year-old athlete from Haryana continued his impressive form, securing his second title within a month after winning the Paris Diamond League recently.

Chopra, who made history by winning Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020 and silver in Paris 2024, began his series with a foul. He followed it up with a 83.45m throw in his second attempt before producing his winning throw of 85.29m on his third try. Though he could not improve on this distance in his remaining attempts, it was enough to keep him ahead of the field.

South Africa’s Douw Smit finished second with a throw of 84.12m, while Anderson Peters of Grenada took third with a best of 83.63m.

Neeraj recorded 82.17m in his fourth attempt and 81.01m in the fifth. He fouled his final throw deliberately, acknowledging that it wasn’t executed properly.

While the win extended his ongoing streak of victories, the 85.29m mark fell short of his recent personal best, where he crossed the coveted 90-metre mark—a feat he is keen to replicate consistently this season. Nonetheless, his performance reaffirmed his dominance in the sport as he builds momentum toward upcoming major events.
