Naveen Patnaik Mourns Uttarkashi Flash Flood Tragedy, Offers Prayers for Victims

Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in a cloudburst-triggered flash flood that struck Dharali village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
The disaster, which occurred in the early hours, swept away multiple houses and left at least four people dead, with many others reported missing. Dharali, a well-known stopover for pilgrims en route to Gangotri, has been left devastated. The area, dotted with hotels, restaurants, and homestays, has suffered extensive damage.
Taking to microblogging platform X, Patnaik wrote,
“I am deeply anguished by the devastating cloudburst in #Uttarkashi, which has unleashed havoc in Dharali village, claiming precious lives and leaving many others missing. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families, and my thoughts are with all those enduring this unimaginable tragedy.”
He also added,
“We pray to Lord Jagannath to grant strength and protection to everyone affected by this calamity. I also salute the tireless efforts of the rescue teams who are bravely working to save lives amidst these challenging conditions.”
Patnaik’s statement comes as the country grapples with a rising number of extreme weather events, especially in the Himalayan region, highlighting growing concerns over climate change and its impact on vulnerable ecosystems.
