Music Composer Abhijit Majumdar Shifted Back to ICU as Health Condition Worsens

Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar was shifted back to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Friday after his health condition deteriorated.

According to a statement issued by AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, the 54-year-old composer’s condition worsened over the past 24 hours, necessitating mechanical ventilation and vasopressor support to maintain his hemodynamics. “Majumdar’s condition has worsened in the last 24 hours. He was shifted to the medical ICU again this morning as he requires more intensive care and monitoring,” the statement said.

Doctors confirmed that Majumdar remains in a comatose state, with no signs of neurological improvement. He has been undergoing treatment for multiple comorbidities, including osmotic demyelination syndrome, bilateral pneumonia, bloodstream infection, and chronic liver disease.

The veteran music director was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on September 4 after his condition deteriorated at a private hospital in Cuttack. He was initially placed on ventilator support and later moved to the Medicine ward on September 25 after some improvement.

Majumdar had first complained of health complications while performing at music programmes during the Ganesh Puja festival on August 27. He was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack and later shifted to another healthcare facility before being referred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

The popular composer, known for his contribution to Odia cinema and albums, continues to receive round-the-clock medical care at AIIMS.
