Medical Student Succumbs to Injuries After Being Hit by Speeding Bike in Balangir

Bhubaneswar: A first-year medical student of the Government Ayurvedic College in Balangir died on Monday while undergoing treatment after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle outside the college premises on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Simran Sarangi, a resident of Koraput and a first-year student at the Government Ayurvedic College in Balangir.

According to reports, the accident occurred on Saturday when a speeding bike allegedly rammed into Simran near the college gate. The impact of the collision left her critically injured.

Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir for treatment. As her condition deteriorated, she was later referred to Bargarh Bikash Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment on Monday.

Acting on a complaint filed by the college principal, the Town Police initiated an investigation into the incident and have taken the biker involved in the accident into custody.

Meanwhile, the death of the young medical student has triggered strong reactions on the campus. Students of the Balangir Ayurvedic College staged a protest and blocked the road, demanding strict action against the accused and improved safety measures near the institution. They warned that the agitation would continue until their demands are addressed.
