Massive Fire Engulfs Super Mart Near Lingipur on Bhubaneswar Outskirts

Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out at a Super Mart near Lingipur on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar late Monday night, sending flames soaring high into the sky and triggering a major firefighting operation.

According to reports, the blaze erupted around 10:30 pm and quickly engulfed a significant portion of the market building. Eight fire tenders were pressed into service to control the flames, with firefighters deploying a hydraulic platform capable of reaching heights of up to 200 feet to tackle the fire from above.

The Fire Services department also mobilised a striking force team, employing specialised strategies to contain the blaze. During the operation, a large crack reportedly appeared in one of the building’s walls, prompting firefighters to attempt breaching it to prevent further structural damage and curb the spread of the fire.

Firefighting efforts have been complicated by the absence of windows in the building, making access to the upper floors difficult. Despite sustained efforts, the fire spread up to the fourth floor, with thick smoke and flames billowing out, posing a threat to nearby shops and residential houses.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the incident. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage as firefighting operations continue, with additional fire tenders being rushed to the spot to support containment efforts.
