Man Stabbed to Death After Altercation at Puri’s Swargadwar; Accused Arrested

Puri: Beach police arrested a person on Friday in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man at the Swargadwar area of Puri following a late-night altercation on Thursday.
According to police sources, the deceased, identified as Ranjan Kumar Das of Apanda village in Bhadrak district, had come to Swargadwar to attend a relative’s funeral. The incident occurred near Chaitanya Square, where Das reportedly got into a heated argument with another man over ritual offerings.

The verbal spat soon escalated into violence, during which the accused allegedly stabbed Das, killing him on the spot. Another man, Manas Ranjan Nayak, who was accompanying Das, also sustained injuries in the incident and fled the scene.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and detained the accused. Das’s body was sent to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack. Preliminary findings suggest the murder was triggered by a sudden argument, police said.
