Man Hacked to Death While Asleep in Malkangiri Village

Malkangiri: A man was brutally murdered with a sharp weapon while sleeping outside his house in Kurampali village under Mathili police station limits late Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Thakur.

According to reports, Niranjan was asleep in the verandah while his daughter and son-in-law were resting inside. Taking advantage of the darkness, unidentified assailants allegedly locked the door from outside before attacking Niranjan. His throat was slit with a sharp weapon, leading to his death on the spot.

On being informed, a police team from Mathili reached the site and began an investigation. While the motive behind the killing is still unclear, villagers suspect it could be a case of mistaken identity. Family members, however, have stated they do not suspect anyone at this stage.

Mathili IIC Dipanjali Pradhan said that the matter is under investigation and the exact cause of the murder can be ascertained only after further inquiry.

The gruesome incident has triggered panic in the locality, with villagers expressing concern over the boldness of the attackers and urging police to nab the culprits at the earliest.
