Man Goes Missing After Falling from Floating Bridge in Chilika Lake

Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident was reported from Chilika Lake near Satapada on Thursday, where a man went missing after reportedly falling from a floating bridge.
According to preliminary information, the man is suspected to have accidentally slipped from the floating bridge and drowned in the lake. Although there were no eyewitnesses to confirm the exact circumstances of the fall, officials believe it was an accidental incident.

During the search operation, authorities recovered a bag, a cap and a pair of slippers from the water near the floating bridge. The items are believed to belong to the missing person.
The man has been identified as Umashankar Sabat, around 60 years old. He had reportedly come to Chilika from Berhampur in Ganjam district for sightseeing and is a resident of the Balimela area in Malkangiri district.
The Satapada outpost police said they have received information about the incident, following which fire services personnel were pressed into service to conduct a search and rescue operation. Further details are awaited as the operation continues.
