Man beaten to death over sorcery suspicion in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Malkangiri, Aug 30: A 40-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by villagers over suspicion of practising sorcery at Orelguda in Poteru area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.According to police reports, one Deba Banjami of the village died yesterday while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. He was hospitalised after complaining of sickness.However, his family members suspected that sorcery by Jaga Kabasi of the village led to deterioration of Banjami’s health condition which resulted in his death.

Later, relatives of Banjami assaulted Kabasi, after dragging him out of his house.A case has been registered by Kalimela police and investigation is underway.
