Man Attacks Wife, Attempts Suicide in Kendrapara

Bhubaneswar: A shocking incident has sent shockwaves through Malipur village under Pattamundai police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, where a man allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp weapon before attempting to take his own life.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred late Monday night following a domestic dispute. The accused, identified as Pratap Mallick, allegedly assaulted his wife Bharati using a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.

Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and immediately shifted Bharati to the Pattamundai Community Health Centre. As her condition worsened, she was later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

After the attack, Pratap reportedly fled the scene. On Tuesday morning, he was found lying unconscious near a pond in the village. A bottle of poison and a blood-stained knife were recovered from the spot. He was also admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the attack.
