Man Arrested for Posing as Fake Cop to Extort Truck Drivers in Balasore

Balasore: Police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as a police officer and extorting money from truck drivers in Khaira area of Balasore district.

The accused has been identified as Mihir Ranjan Das of Arjunpur village under Khaira police station limits.

According to reports, the arrest was made after Ajay Panda filed a complaint alleging that four youths, claiming to be police personnel, stopped his truck near Toranipada Chowk while he was transporting chips from Kupari to Soro. The youths reportedly asked him to show vehicle documents and demanded Rs 3,000 to release the truck.

Panda alleged that he was forced to transfer Rs 3,000 through the PhonePe app. However, he later came to know that the youths were not police personnel but imposters.

Following the complaint, Khaira IIC Jan Patnaik launched an investigation and arrested Mihir Ranjan Das. The accused has been forwarded to court, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the other persons involved in the incident.
