Majhi, Singh Deo Urge Mass Water Conservation Movement on World Water Day

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Water Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo urged citizens to prioritise water conservation and turn it into a mass movement for building a prosperous state.

In his message, the Chief Minister extended greetings and underlined water as the essence of life, stressing the responsibility of every individual to protect and use it judiciously. “Water is life and it is the duty of all of us to protect and properly utilize this precious natural resource,” he said.

Majhi also highlighted the state’s ongoing initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide clean piped drinking water to every household. He noted that efforts such as strengthening Pani Panchayats and launching new irrigation projects are helping farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.

Calling for collective action, he said the vision of a “Prosperous Odisha” can be achieved by making water conservation a people’s movement.

Echoing similar views, Singh Deo emphasised the importance of safeguarding water as a foundation for health, prosperity, and harmony. Referring to this year’s theme, “Water for Peace,” he described it as a broader call for action aligned with global concerns on water equity and sustainability.

“On this World Water Day, let’s reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding our most precious resource—water. ‘Water for Peace’ is not just a theme, but a call to action for all of us,” he stated.

He further advocated for the conservation and equitable sharing of water resources, including rivers and groundwater, to ensure a sustainable future. “By working collectively, we can ensure that every drop counts—for peace, for progress, and for life,” he added.

The leaders reiterated that Odisha’s strength lies in its people and natural resources, and collective efforts are key to securing a water-resilient future for generations to come.
