Mahasnana performed at Srimandira on blood stain found near ‘Jay Bijaya Dwara’

Puri: A Mahasnana, or holy bath, was performed for the deities at the Srimandira, the renowned Lord Jagannath temple in Puri of Odisha, today. The unscheduled ritual became necessary after blood stain found near ‘Jay Bijaya Dwara’ inside the temple, compromising the sanctity of the premises.
According to reports, today is Makara Sankranti. After completion of the Abakasha niti blood stain was witnessed near the Jay Bijaya dwara of Srimandira. After this was noticed the darshan of the deities was temporarily halted and process initiated for Mahasnana.
In accordance with temple tradition, a Mahasnana was performed to restore the purity of the deities and the temple.
As per temple customs, any incident involving bleeding, vomiting, or uncleanliness found in between the Jay Bijay dwara to Bhitara Katha (inner wood) of the temple necessitates the immediate cessation of ongoing rituals and a Mahasnana to restore the sanctity of the temple and its deities.
According to the temple’s tradition, if any servitor or devotee bleeds from the body due to an accident, or if a small child, old man, or person defecates, the ongoing rituals of Mahaprabhu are immediately stopped. After this, Thakur’s great bath is performed.
