Mahanga: Wrong person arrested and sent to jail due to same name

Salipur: It has been claimed that a wrong person was arrested and sent to jail in Mahanga area of Cuttack district in Odisha due to confusion of having same name of two persons.

As per reports, the villagers of Nandakishorepur under Kundi Panchayat have claimed that Mahanga Police arrested a wrong person due to confusion of same name.

Reportedly, a warrant had been issued in the name of Abhimanyu Behera. Accordingly, Mahanga Police arrested a person of the same name from Nandakishorepur.

However, the family members of the arrestee have claimed that the arrested person is innocent. It has been learnt that there is another person in another village, Jagannathpur with the same name. The family members have claimed that this Jagannathpur man is the real accused of selling smuggled liquor but police have arrested their family’s Abhimanyu who is innocent.

We are yet to get reaction of Mahanga Police in this regard to examine whether the allegation of the family members are correct or not.
