Maha Shivratri 2026: Tight Security Measures in Place at Odisha’s Lingaraj, Puri, and Cuttack Temples

Lingaraj Temple: Over 200 Officers Deployed

In Bhubaneswar, the iconic Lingaraj Temple is preparing for one of the most significant rituals of the day, the raising of the Mahadeepa at 10 PM tonight. The Police Commissioner has closely reviewed the security arrangements due to the expected massive turnout of devotees. In total, 41 platoons of police and 200 officers have been deployed at the temple to ensure smooth crowd management and the safety of all attendees.

Authorities have issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone using fake passes to gain access.

Puri:

In Puri, the Loknath Temple is one of the central points of Maha Shivratri celebrations, with thousands of pilgrims expected to participate in the Jagar Yatra. The Puri SP confirmed that five platoons of police have been deployed to manage the crowds and ensure orderly darshan throughout the night.

Cuttack:

In Cuttack, authorities have made comprehensive arrangements at the Dhabaleswar Temple, where the Mahadeepa will be raised at 1 AM on February 16. The police have confirmed that security measures for the Jagar observance at the temple have been completed to ensure a peaceful and safe experience for all.
