Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal to Trigger Heavy Rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall across Odisha in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal at 5:30 AM on September 2, 2025, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast.

“The low pressure is likely to become more marked in the next 24 hours and subsequently move west-northwestwards across Odisha,” the IMD said in its morning bulletin.

Rainfall activity has already begun in parts of north coastal Odisha and adjoining districts since early Tuesday morning. The intensity of rainfall is expected to increase as the system strengthens and moves inland.
