Low pressure in Bay of Bengal triggers rain in State

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Bhubaneswar, July 1: Low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal, triggered heavy rainfall across the State from Sunday night to continue till Monday morning.

Though the rain provided much needed res[ite from the grueling heat and sweat, problems of water-logging and traffic congestion hit normal life at several places.

The Regional Meteorological department issued lightning and intense rainfall warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Puri and Khurda districts till 8 am today.

       On July 1, extremely heavy rain fall is likely over Sambalpur,Deogarh, Sonepur, Angul, Bargarh, Jharsuguda,Sundergarhand Dhenkanal.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nawarangpur districts.

On July 2, rainfall is likely over districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir and Sambalpur.

On July 3, light showers may occur across the State, predicted the Met Department.

Due to low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal, gusty wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during 30th June to 2ndJuly, 2019.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during these days.
