Leakage develops in IOCL pipe line in Paradip

Surjit kumar Dhal, Paradip, Feb 25: One pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) between Atharbanki and Nehru Banglow area of Paradip developed leakage on Sunday causing spillage of diesel into the nearby river.

According to sources, the leakage is likely to pollute the water body posing a major threat to the aquatic species.

Though the exact reason of the leakage has not been ascertained, it is suspected that some miscreants might have drilled the pipe in a bid to steal oil.

After being informed, Paradip police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.

The investigation team suspected the involvement of oil mafia in the incident because some oil mafia were arrested in this connection last year.

Paradip ASP Bishnu Charan Mishra said that the investigation is going on and the facts will be known soon.

Notably, the pipeline is used to transport oil from Paradip Port to various oil terminals at Paradip.
