Labourer hacked to death in Cuttack

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Cuttack, July 24: A 55-year-old man was brutally murdered at Ranihat under Mangalabag police station on Monday night.

                The deceased has been identified as Kodanda Rout alias Kalia of Baulapur under Sadar police station in Dhenkanal.

Locals spotted the body of the man,  who worked as a labourer in the city, lying in a pool of blood near Taladanda Canal and informed police.

Deep injury marks were found on his neck and head.

        The deceased who hails from Dhenkanal district and had been staying in Cuttack for the last 20 years was eking out a living by working as a labourer in the city, according to the locals.

          “Though the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, Kalia is suspected to have been hacked to death by the miscreant with whom he had some dispute,” said DCP Akhilesvar Sing.

          Police have sent the body for post mortem and started a probe into the murder case, he added.
