JNV Gurujang Closed Till Jan 14 After Jaundice Cases Detected

Bhubaneswar: Authorities of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Gurujang in Odisha’s Khurda district have closed the residential school till January 14 after several students tested positive for jaundice.

The decision to temporarily shut the institute and send students home was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety and well-being, the school principal said on Wednesday. The closure was made on the advice of the Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, headquarters at Noida.

“The school has been closed to prevent the possible spread of infection and to allow time for proper sanitation, medical review, and continuous monitoring of students’ health,” the principal stated.

According to reports, around 70 students out of the total 560 enrolled at the school have been affected by jaundice. However, school authorities maintained that only a few cases have been officially detected so far.

Parents have been advised to closely observe their children for any symptoms and seek medical attention if required.

Meanwhile, officials from the Health Department visited the residential school and collected samples from students for testing. A team from the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) also inspected the school’s water supply system as part of the investigation into the outbreak.

Further steps will be taken based on the findings of the medical and water quality assessments, officials said.
