Jharsuguda Shivers at 9°C as Cold Wave Tightens Grip

Bhubaneswar: A biting cold wave continued to grip Jharsuguda on Monday, with the minimum temperature dropping to 9°C in the early hours of the morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the temperature at 5:30 am, noting a further fall of 0.6°C from the previous day.

Over the past 10 days, Jharsuguda has experienced a consistent decline in minimum temperatures, indicating a strengthening winter pattern. The mercury, which stood at 14°C on December 1, gradually slipped to 13.2°C on December 2 and then rose slightly to 13.6°C on December 3. However, the brief rise was followed by a steady downward trend, with temperatures dropping to 12.8°C on December 4, 11.6°C on December 5, 11.2°C on December 6, 11°C on December 7, and 10°C on December 8. The district then recorded 9.6°C on December 9 before reaching 9°C today.
The persistent drop in temperature has prompted the IMD to advise residents to take adequate precautions to stay warm, especially during early morning hours. Dense fog is also likely to reduce visibility, making travel potentially risky during the early part of the day.
