Jharaphula Row: Rakesh Sent to Judicial Custody

Jajpur (Reporters Today Bureau): Rakesh Swain, the main accused in the death case of Ramadevi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, was sent to judicial custody for eight days. The accused was deposed before the District Judge Court, Jajpur, in the morning after his 3-day remand period completed today. The judge sent him to the judicial custody till February 12 as the investigating officers did not pray before the court for taking him on a remand again for interrogation.

“After completion of three-day remand, the investigating team produced accused Rakesh Swain before the court today. As part of court’s direction, the police submitted his medical examination report showing ‘No’ injury marks found on his body. Following his appearance before the court, Honourable District Judge Srikant Mishra sent the accused to judicial custody till 12.02.2021,” informed Public Prosecutor Samarendra Das.

However, no bail application has been filed in the court for the accused so far. When asked about taking the accused for polygraph test, the lawyer said that the police neither prayed before the court for taking the accused on remand again nor for conducting lie detector test on him. Earlier, Rakesh was taken on a remand by Kuakhia police for three days for investigation into the mysterious death of Jharaphula, who was dumped on a roadside on January 27.
