Jajpur Shocker: Woman Abducted and Gang-Raped, Auto Driver Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Jajpur police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for his alleged involvement in the abduction and gang-rape of a working woman in Jajpur town. The incident, which took place on the night of April 22, came to light four days later, on April 26.

The arrested accused has been identified as Balaram Dash alias Nanda, son of Nityananda Dash, a resident of Kuanra village under Dasarathpur police limits. He was taken into custody on Monday after an investigation led to his identification.

According to police reports, the victim was waiting for transportation at Gandhi Chhak when Balaram approached her and offered a ride. However, instead of taking her to her destination, he diverted the route and picked up two other men—one from Motona Chhak and the other from Buddha Chhak.

“They took her to a deserted area on the outskirts of the town and brutally assaulted her,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Sitikantha Kanungo, while addressing the media.

Following the investigation, police seized the auto-rickshaw used in the crime and arrested the driver. “Efforts are underway to nab the other two accused, and they will be arrested soon,” ASP Kanungo assured.

The incident has sparked public outrage and raised concerns over women’s safety in the region.
