Jagannath Temple Ready for ‘Dhadi’ Darshan System

Bhubaneswar: Preparations are in full swing for the introduction of the ‘Dhadi’ (queue) darshan system at the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri, with temple authorities ramping up arrangements to streamline the devotees’ darshan experience.

The newly-constituted Jagannath Temple Managing Committee had recently approved the proposal to implement the queue system at the Natamandap inside the shrine premises. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) plans to roll out the system on a trial basis before its full implementation.

SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee, along with several members of the managing committee, today inspected the wooden ramps prepared for the new system at a production facility in Bhubaneswar. These ramps will soon be transported to Puri for installation ahead of the queue system launch.

“We are committed to ensuring smooth and hassle-free darshan for devotees. Today’s live demonstration of the Dhadi darshan model was conducted for servitor members of the committee, and their suggestions will be incorporated before the final rollout,” said Padhee.

As per decisions taken during the managing committee meeting, an official Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be drafted for the queue system. In a significant development, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has also granted permission to install air-conditioning at the Natamandap—located near the sanctum sanctorum—to enhance devotee comfort.

The queue system marks a major step toward modernising crowd management at one of India’s most revered temples, aiming to provide devotees with a smoother and more organised darshan experience.
