Jagannath Temple Declared Red Zone by DGCA to Strengthen Security

Puri: In a significant move to enhance the security of the 12th-century Shree Jagannath Temple, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially declared the shrine and its surrounding area as a Red Zone.
Confirming the development on Saturday, Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh said the Red Zone status will remain effective for three years, valid until September 25, 2028.

Earlier, the temple area had been designated as a No-Flying Zone to prevent drone activities and ensure the safety of devotees and the sanctum premises. With the new Red Zone declaration, the restrictions have been further tightened.
“Odisha Police had applied to the DGCA through the Ministry of Transport and Communication. Acting on the request, the DGCA appointed nodal officers to conduct a detailed survey. Based on their report, the DGCA issued a notification on September 25, officially declaring Srimandir and its surrounding areas as a Red Zone,” the SP informed.
The new status prohibits any unauthorised drone or aerial activity near the temple, with violators facing strict legal action.
Officials said the move aims to strengthen aerial surveillance and protect the temple premises, which draw millions of devotees and tourists from around the world every year.
The enhanced security measure marks a proactive step toward ensuring the safety and sanctity of one of India’s most revered religious landmarks.
