Is Shubman Gill to be India’s next ODI captain after England Test success!

Sunil Gavaskar, the cricketing legend, thinks Shubman Gill is the ideal person to succeed India’s ODI captain. Gill’s performance as a Test captain, in which he guided India to a 2-2 draw against England, has impressed Gavaskar. Gill had scored a record-breaking 754 runs in 10 innings, including three centuries and a double century.

Gavaskar was impressed by Gill’s fighting qualities, and he is one of the most popular players in the team, according to him. Gill’s winning attitude was clearly visible during the Edgbaston Test when he single-handedly won the match for India with a score of 269. Gavaskar mentioned that Gill’s appetite for runs is never-ending, and he will continue to push himself to do more.

India’s recent victory at The Oval Test was a reflection of the team’s determination and resilience. With only 35 runs needed and four wickets to spare, England was bowled out for 354, courtesy of outstanding bowling performances by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Siraj returned figures of 5 for 104, while Prasidh picked up 4 for 126.

As Rohit Sharma’s future as the ODI captain hangs in balance, Gavaskar believes it is the right time for the selectors to look at Gill for the position. “If the selectors are looking for a new leader, then the right time to give Gill a leadership role would be in the ODI series against Australia or the West Indies,” said Gavaskar.
