Internet ban in Malkangiri: DG Y. B. Khurania visits MV 26 village

Malkangiri: Following the fight between villagers of Rakhalguda and MV 26, in Malkangiri, Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay ordered suspension of internet services across the district for 24 hours. The internet ban will remain in effect in the district till 6 pm today in view of the unrest.
On Monday, State Director General of Police Y. B. Khurania visited MV 26 village to assess the situation in the area. He visited the entire village on foot and reviewed the security arrangements. Additional Director General of Police Sanjeeb Panda and DIG Akhileshwar Singh were also present with the DGP during his visit.
Tension erupted between the two villages, Rakhalguda and MV 26 after a 50-year-old woman’s headless body was found on the banks of Poteru river. The deceased woman was a resident of Rakhalguda village. The head of the body was missing and has not been found yet.
Thousands of tribal people, armed with bows, arrows and swords, broke through the police barricade and entered MV 26 village. They began to destroy houses and set several houses on fire. The police was unable to contain the rampage of the villagers.
